CONSTIPATION
Predominant irritable bowel syndrome
Constipation or difficulty in defecation is a common condition of the digestive system. Symptoms can vary from mild to quite severe with extreme cases preventing passage of stool or gas at all. Patients usually will often self-treat using commercially available fibre products such as Metamucil or psyllium husks to aid in defecation; however this type of treatment is limited to the severity of the constipation and symptoms return once treatment is halted or ceased. More severe constipation is often controlled by laxatives although again, symptoms return once treatment is halted or ceased.
The treatment offered here aims to treat moderate to severe constipation that may be induced by an infection of unknown gut flora that affects bowel movement. Oral vancomycin has previously demonstrated to improve symptoms or reverse constipation in patients.
